Job Description
Your Role
We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer with 5 to 8 years of experience in wind turbine, heavy engineering, or industrial equipment design.
The Design Engineer will be responsible for the design, development, validation, and continuous improvement of wind turbine components and mechanical systems. This role involves creating robust, cost-effective, and manufacturable designs using NX CAD tools while ensuring compliance with engineering standards, safety requirements, and customer specifications.
The successful candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams, suppliers, and stakeholders to develop innovative technical solutions, support product lifecycle management activities, conduct design reviews and risk assessments, and drive engineering excellence throughout the product development lifecycle.
In this role, you will:
- Design and develop wind turbine components and mechanical systems that meet functional, reliability, safety, manufacturability, serviceability, and cost requirements.
- Create and modify 3D models, assemblies, and detailed manufacturing drawings using NX.
- Develop mechanical concepts and detailed designs for fabricated structures, sheet metal parts, bolted and welded assemblies, and forged/cast components.
- Apply advanced CAD methodologies including parametric modelling, expression-based modelling, part families, wave-link geometry, and large assembly management.
- Define and specify realistic dimensional tolerances and geometric controls using GPS/GD&T principles.
- Prepare and maintain engineering documentation including manufacturing drawings, BOMs, exploded views, spare parts lists, and service-related documentation.
- Perform tolerance stack-up analysis, interference checks, Form-Fit-Function (FFF) assessments, manufacturability evaluations, and design validations.
- Conduct engineering calculations and support verification activities in accordance with company engineering standards and design guidelines.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable international standards, safety regulations, customer requirements, and company drafting practices.
- Contribute to Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), and Design for Serviceability (DFS) initiatives throughout the product lifecycle.
- Perform and support FMEA, risk assessments, and technical problem-solving activities to enhance product robustness and reliability.
- Lead technical discussions, design reviews, and solution development activities with cross-functional teams, suppliers, and external engineering partners.
- Support engineering change management activities and maintain product data within PLM systems such as Teamcenter.
- Manage engineering changes through established PLM and Engineering Change Management processes.
- Collaborate with manufacturing, sourcing, quality, service, and project teams to ensure successful product development and implementation.
