Senior Data Governance Strategist

Your role

As a Senior Data Governance Strategist within Capgemini Invent, you will help leading organizations unlock the value of their data by designing and implementing modern data governance frameworks that enable trusted, compliant, and business-driven decision making. You will work at the intersection of business, data, and technology, supporting clients in building scalable governance capabilities for data, analytics, and AI initiatives.

Your tasks

• Lead data governance strategy engagements: maturity assessments, target operating model, policies, roadmap and business case.
• Design governance frameworks aligned with DAMA-DMBOK and adapt them to modern architectures such as data mesh and federated models.
• Own the semantic foundation: business glossary, concept model, taxonomies and ontologies; define knowledge graph and metadata standards; run semantic standards and review boards across domains.
• Stay hands-on: write the standards, model the key concepts, review the quality rules and the catalog content yourself when it matters.
• Make governance operational with data owners and stewards: decision rights, forums, issue management, metrics and reporting to management.
• Work with data engineers and platform teams so that standards, classification, lineage, quality checks and semantic models are implemented in catalogs, semantic layers and data platforms.
• Define and implement data sovereignty and residency controls: data classification, residency and jurisdiction rules, access from outside the EU, retention, and the evidence that shows compliance with GDPR and sector regulation.
• Support AI and analytics programmes with governed definitions, semantic context and sovereignty-compliant data access.
• Lead and develop consultants, manage engagement delivery and client relationships, and contribute to our offers, assets and thought leadership.

Your profile

• 7+ years of experience in data governance or data management, including several years leading engagements or teams, ideally in consulting.
• Deep knowledge of data governance principles and methodologies (e.g., DAMA-DMBOK); CDMP or equivalent certification is a plus.
• Hands-on experience with business glossaries, taxonomies and ontologies; working knowledge of semantic technologies (RDF, OWL, SKOS) and knowledge graphs; experience with semantic or metadata tools (e.g., PoolParty, TopBraid, Collibra, Informatica, Alation, Microsoft Purview).
• Experience with data quality, metadata and master data management.
• Experience with data privacy, classification, data sovereignty and residency requirements (e.g., GDPR, cross-border data transfers, sector regulation) and with the controls that implement them.
• Proven ability to lead client engagements, run senior stakeholder workshops and settle disagreements on definitions and ownership.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills; fluent English.
• Experience in one or more of the preferred industries (FS, Automotive, Energy & Utilities, Tech, FMCG, Pharma) is highly desirable.
