This service produces clearly identifiable results, notably the reduction in the cost of software development and maintenance by up to 30%, enhanced quality levels, improved time to market, and importantly mitigation of technical and business risks. 

Role Description

Payments Switch

THe Senior Test Analyst is a key contributor to the delivery of robust and high-performing payments switch solutions, combining domain expertise with disciplined test practice. This role also has a part to play in uplifting capability across the team through knowledge sharing, and strong documentation standards.

 

Key Responsibilities

Payments Switch Testing & Technical Expertise

Execute end-to-end testing of the payments switch platforms, including transaction routing, message transformation, and exception handling.

Validate transaction flows across multiple channels (e.g., POS, ATM, online banking) using simulators and test harnesses.

Support certification testing (e.g., Scheme, Compliance, Integration) and contribute to root cause analysis and troubleshooting.

Demonstrate working knowledge of ISO 8583 and AS2805 messaging, switch architecture, and interbank settlement processes.

Collaborate with scheme partners and internal teams to ensure accurate switch behaviour under various transaction scenarios.

 

Test Discipline & Lifecycle Ownership

Understand and work to the SDLC, from requirement analysis through to test closure.

Build and maintain traceability between business requirements and test cases.

Contribute to the development and execution of test plans tailored to switch releases, upgrades, and configuration changes.

 

Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement

Work closely with developers, business analysts, and vendor partners to ensure shared understanding of test scope and outcomes.

Engage with wider banking technology teams (e.g., ATM, Payments, Core Banking) to ensure integrated testing across domains.

Translate business scenarios into plain English test cases.

 

Capability Uplift

Identify personal areas of strength and actively contribute to upskilling peers via knowledge sharing, either face to face or via strong documentation, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.

 

Documentation & Process Excellence

Maintain high-quality test documentation, including test plans, test cases, defect reports, and traceability matrices where required.

Contribute to the evolution of test processes and standards, ensuring alignment with project and organisational goals.

Support the creation of reusable assets and knowledge bases to improve team efficiency and onboarding.

 

Risk Management & Quality Advocacy

Proactively identify and communicate risks, issues, and architectural concerns throughout the testing process.

Advocate for quality across all phases of delivery, contributing to test deliverables and reporting.

  • Strong understanding of exception handling, settlement processes, and transaction message decoding

  • Knowledge of the wider Payment Switch ecosystem such as ATM, POS, Switch
  • Simulator experience e.g. PAYSIM/FINSIM as a user
  • ISO 8583 and AS2805 messaging formats
