Capgemini are recruiting for experienced Quality Engineers at a Senior and Lead level.

We have vacancies for Senior and Lead Quality Engineers to join our dynamic team building solutions for our public sector client. Working with us will mean delivering critical digital services from cradle to grave working on a variety of projects featuring high-performance cloud platforms using Java based languages and technologies, and on-premises traditional infrastructure.

Additionally, we expect Lead Quality Engineers to possess advanced technical expertise, strong problem-solving abilities, and a proven track record of leading complex engineering projects. This role requires a deep understanding of engineering principles, quality assurance, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic environment.

Hybrid working: Your working location will vary depending on your role, personal needs, and business requirements. This will typically include a mix of company offices, client sites, and remote work from home. If your location is Telford or Hove you will be expected to work from the office between 40% and 70% of the time. For all other locations you need to be prepared to come into the Telford or Hove office once to twice a month (Lead Engineers more frequently). As we align closely with customer requirements—which may change over time—you will need to remain flexible. Please note that fully remote working (100% from home) is not permitted.

Your role

As a Quality Engineer, you'll play a key role in assuring the quality of complex software solutions, working across both system-to-system and user interface-based projects. You'll collaborate closely with delivery teams to drive quality throughout the development lifecycle, applying modern engineering practices and helping teams build reliable, scalable, and high-performing solutions.

As a Senior Quality Engineer, you will:

• Lead by example as a hands-on quality engineering practitioner, contributing to all aspects of software testing.
• Design and execute test scenarios, scripts, and test data requirements, including working with external and third-party systems.
• Shape and implement effective test automation strategies using industry best practices.
• Develop automated tests using technologies such as Java, Scala, .NET, or JavaScript, and advocate for approaches including TDD and BDD.
• Collaborate with stakeholders, architects, developers, and product teams to influence solution design and delivery planning.
• Mentor and support junior engineers, promoting technical excellence, wellbeing, and professional development.
  
  

As a Lead Quality Engineer, you will additionally:

• Provide technical leadership across quality engineering activities, ensuring successful delivery of high-quality solutions.
• Define and drive quality engineering strategy, standards, and best practices across projects and programmes.
• Champion innovation by identifying and implementing modern testing approaches, tools, and engineering solutions.
• Lead collaboration across multiple teams and disciplines to enable seamless integration and delivery.
• Act as a senior mentor and role model, developing engineering capability and fostering a culture of continuous learning.
• Support the technical and career development of engineers through coaching, performance management, and leadership.

Your skills and experience

We are looking for someone with a strong understanding of the QA process, knowledge in defining, implementing test designs and broad experience across test levels.

• Hands-on experience using and maintaining automated test frameworks (e.g, Cucumber, JUnit)
• Knowledge of stubbing / mocking frameworks such as Wiremock
• Understanding of Non-Functional testing such as Performance, Security or Accessibility testing
• Experience / Understanding of Git or other version control systems
• Strong experience of iterative / incremental software delivery
• Hands on experience of all levels of the test automation pyramid
• Experienced in API testing and tools
• Experienced in Functional or System Testing
• Experience using project management tooling (e.g. JIRA)
• Good knowledge of Agile methodologies
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, strong problem-solving & collaborative skills
• Proactive, looks for areas of improvement

• Advanced Technical Skills: Strong understanding of the QA process, knowledge in defining, implementing test designs and broad experience across test levels, with a deep understanding of engineering principles and best practice. Flexibility and adaptability are expected to acquire new skills to match industry demands and customer expectations.
• Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex issues.
• Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information clearly and effectively. High levels of emotional intelligence to connect with and develop our engineering talent pool.
• Project Management: Proven experience in managing and leading engineering projects from conception to completion. Strong business skills to drive value for our clients while maintaining sustainable profitability.
• Team Collaboration: Ability to work effectively in a team environment, with strong interpersonal skills.
• Influence: To assess and apply change across our organisation, shaping and maintaining a healthy culture. Define and promote best practice across our technical community.
