Relaunch - Experience Designer
Relaunch@Capgemini
Have you taken a career break of 18 months or more? Whether your break was for family, health, travel or another reason, we understand that returning to work can feel daunting.
Relaunch@Capgemini is a supportive six-month programme designed to help experienced professionals rebuild their confidence, refresh their existing skills and ease their transition back into the workplace. We are not looking for perfection. We are looking for potential. You do not need to meet every requirement listed below. If you have relevant previous experience, transferable skills and a willingness to learn, we encourage you to apply.
The programme is designed for experienced professionals returning after a career break of between 18 months and 10 years. It includes a tailored learning and development plan, coaching and access to a community of fellow returners.
About the job you're considering
We are looking for a junior-to-mid-level Interaction Designer to join our Experience Design community.
You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to design accessible, understandable and user-centred digital products and services. Much of our work supports complex government and enterprise transformation, including services for our clients. You will be supported to refresh your interaction design skills, become familiar with current design tools and ways of working, and gradually take on greater responsibility as your confidence and experience develop.
Your role
Depending on your previous experience and development needs, you will:
• Help explore and understand user needs, behaviours and journeys, working closely with user researchers and other design colleagues.
• Translate user needs, research evidence and user stories into clear, practical design ideas.
• Create user flows, interface concepts, sketches, wireframes and prototypes.
• Help design products and services that are inclusive, accessible and easy to understand.
• Test and iterate designs using feedback from users, colleagues and stakeholders.
• Clearly explain your design thinking and the evidence behind your decisions.
• Work collaboratively with user researchers, service designers, content designers, product managers, business analysts, developers and architects.
• Contribute to workshops and collaborative design sessions, initially with support where needed.
• Use an iterative approach to develop and improve designs throughout delivery.
• Contribute to the wider Experience Design community by sharing learning, participating in community activities and learning from other designers.
The source role includes designing and presenting concepts and interfaces, applying user-centred methods, producing interactive prototypes, facilitating workshops, communicating across technical and organisational boundaries, and contributing to the wider design community.
Your skills and experience
We understand that time away from the industry may mean you’re not fully up to date with the latest technologies or tools. If you’re unsure whether you meet all the requirements but are enthusiastic about the opportunity, we would still encourage you to apply. We’ll explore how we can support you through the programme.
We’d love to speak with people who have experience in some of the following: Insert role-specific skills and experience here, ideally tailored slightly for the Relaunch programme.
We understand that time away from the workplace may mean you have not recently used the latest tools, technology or design methods. Please do not be discouraged if your experience is not completely up to date. The Relaunch programme is designed to help you refresh and develop your skills.
We would love to hear from you if you have previous experience, transferable skills or a strong foundation in some of the following:
• Applying user-centred or human-centred design approaches.
• Designing digital products, services, interfaces or workflows.
• Creating design artefacts such as user flows, sketches, wireframes or prototypes.
• Working collaboratively with people from different professional backgrounds.
• Using evidence, feedback or research to develop and improve a design.
• Communicating ideas visually and verbally.
• Considering accessibility and inclusion within your work.
• Working in an iterative, agile or similarly collaborative delivery environment.
• Using design or prototyping tools such as Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD or equivalent.
• Managing your work, asking for support when needed and responding positively to feedback.
The original profile identifies grounding in user-centred design, collaboration with development and architecture teams, use of design and prototyping tools, evidence-based decision-making, accessibility and multidisciplinary working as relevant experience.
It would be helpful, but is not essential, if you have
• Experience of government, public-sector or other complex organisations.
• Familiarity with the Government Digital Service standards or similar digital design standards.
• Experience of responsive design or working with an established design system.
• Familiarity with HTML and CSS, the GOV.UK Prototype Kit or other prototyping approaches.
