Basis Engineer

About the job you're considering

We are seeking an experienced and highly capable SAP Basis Engineer to assist with the technical operation, support, optimisation and continuous improvement of a complex SAP landscape. Combining deep hands-on SAP Basis expertise with technical leadership responsibilities, you will help ensure the stability, performance, security and availability of business-critical SAP services.

Acting as a technical authority across SAP S/4HANA and ECC environments, you will lead live service operations, major incident management, problem resolution and strategic transformation initiatives.

This role requires strong technical troubleshooting capabilities, excellent stakeholder management skills, and the ability to lead teams through complex operational challenges in a highly regulated environment.

Hybrid working: The places that you work from day to day will vary according to your role, your needs, and those of the business; it will be a blend of Company offices, client sites, and your home; noting that you will be unable to work at home 100% of the time.

If you are successfully offered this position, you will go through a series of pre-employment checks, including:
identity, nationality (single or dual) or immigration status, employment history going back 3 continuous years, and unspent criminal record check (known as Disclosure and Barring Service)

Your role

This is a hands-on technical leadership role within a large-scale SAP environment. You will lead SAP Basis operational support activities, provide expert administration across SAP platforms and drive service improvements that enhance performance, resilience and operational efficiency.

Working closely with technology teams, cloud providers and business stakeholders, you will oversee major incident recovery, support complex technical change delivery, develop service reporting and monitoring capabilities, and contribute to the successful delivery of cloud and transformation initiatives.

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide technical leadership and governance across the SAP estate, including SAP S/4HANA, ECC and ABAP platforms, ensuring high levels of availability, performance, resilience and security.
  • Lead day-to-day SAP Basis operations, acting as the technical escalation point for critical production issues, major incidents and service risks.
  • Drive problem management activities, conducting root cause analysis and implementing permanent resolutions to improve service reliability and reduce recurring incidents.
  • Deliver expert SAP Basis administration and technical troubleshooting across complex environments, resolving performance, database, integration, connectivity and security-related issues.
  • Develop and enhance monitoring, automation and operational processes to proactively identify issues and support continuous service improvement.
  • Develop and own SAP service reporting and management information, providing meaningful insights, KPI reporting and recommendations to support business and technology decision-making.
  • Build trusted relationships with stakeholders, vendors, cloud providers and delivery teams, communicating technical risks, priorities and improvement opportunities effectively.
  • Support strategic transformation programmes, cloud migrations and complex SAP technical change activities, ensuring successful delivery with minimal business disruption.

Your skills and experience

  • Significant SAP Basis experience supporting large-scale, enterprise SAP estates.
  • Proven ability to lead, develop, and oversee high-performing technical teams.
  • Deep technical expertise across SAP S/4HANA, ECC, PI/PO, Enterprise Portal, and Solution Manager.
  • Strong SAP HANA and Oracle database administration experience.
  • Track record of managing complex, mission-critical SAP production environments.
  • Experience leading major incident response and driving service restoration activities.
  • Skilled in problem management, root cause analysis, and continuous service improvement.
  • Ability to deliver meaningful operational reporting and service performance insights.
