Transition Director

Job Description:

The Transition Director is responsible for leading the end-to-end transition of IT managed services (applications and data platforms) often from an incumbent provider in highly complex, regulated environments; in this case, banking. Capgemini operates across all industries so you may also perfom transition management work in the energy transition, utilities, natural resources, consumer products, retail, transport, manufacturing, distribution and public sectors, amongst others.

This role requires navigating and managing senior stakeholders within the client as well as an incumbent provider; ensuring a seamless, risk-controlled transition without disruption to business operations.

Your Role:

  • Define and execute a comprehensive transition strategy covering applications, data, infrastructure dependencies, and service management.
  • Establish transition governance, operating model, and reporting cadence aligned with client expectations.
  • Lead multi-stream transition teams across geographies, including SMEs, architects, and service leads.
  • Drive structured knowledge acquisition from the incumbent provider.
  • Implement alternative knowledge capture strategies (reverse engineering, shadow support, SME-led discovery).
  • Escalate effectively and leverage contractual, commercial, and client governance mechanisms where required.
  • Build credibility with senior stakeholders within a complex banking environment.
  • Manage challenging client dynamics with clarity, confidence, and transparency.
  • Provide regular, concise updates on risks, progress, and mitigation plans.
  • Align transition outcomes with regulatory, compliance, and audit requirements.
  • Identify, track, and mitigate transition risks, particularly around knowledge gaps, service continuity, and data integrity.
  • Establish robust contingency and fallback plans for critical services.
  • Ensure zero/near-zero disruption to business-critical banking operations.
  • Oversee service readiness including tooling, SLAs, processes, and team capability.
  • Lead hypercare and stabilisation phases post-transition.
  • Ensure smooth handover to BAU delivery teams with clearly defined ownership.
  • Manage transition of complex application landscapes, including legacy and modern platforms.
  • Oversee data migration, validation, governance, and security compliance.
  • Ensure alignment with enterprise architecture and regulatory standards.

Your Profile:

  • 15+ years in IT services with significant experience in large-scale transitions.
  • Proven experience transitioning managed services in banking or financial services.
  • Strong background in applications and data management (data platforms, integration, governance).
  • Demonstrated experience handling transitions from IT Services incumbent providers in fast-paced, highly regulated, high calibre FS environments 
  • Expertise in transition methodologies, governance, and risk management.
  • Executive presence with the ability to influence senior stakeholders.
  • Calm and decisive under pressure; able to manage ambiguity and conflict.
  • Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Outcome-driven with high accountability and ownership.
  • Understanding of complex IT landscapes (applications, data, cloud, integration).
  • Familiarity with regulatory and compliance requirements in banking.
  • Experience with service management frameworks (e.g., ITIL).
