Software Engineer (AWS)

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain applications in Government on Commercial Cloud (GCC) and Commercial Cloud (CC) environments, ensuring robust security controls and network boundary controls are integrated;
• Modernise existing services through refactoring, re-platforming, API enablement, and progressive cloud migration.
• Collaborate closely with business users, system analysts, solution architects, vendors, and other technical teams to design and implement application solutions;
• Assist in Proof of Concept (POC) initiatives, prototyping, and evaluation of emerging technologies and development approaches;
• Develop and maintain source code repositories, ensuring compliance with coding standards, security best practices, and version control procedures;
• Perform application configuration, deployment, troubleshooting, and enhancement activities throughout the product lifecycle;
• Conduct code reviews and implement secure coding practices to identify and remediate vulnerabilities and technical debt;
• Automate software development, testing, deployment, and operational processes to improve efficiency, reliability, and security;
• Develop and maintain application components, databases, interfaces, and services in accordance with IM8 policies, cybersecurity requirements, and best practices;
• Prepare and maintaining technical documentation, operational runbooks, and system support procedures;
• Provide support for project updates, task tracking, defect management, release planning, and procurement-related activities where required;
• Conduct unit testing, system integration testing, user acceptance testing support, defect resolution, and deployment verification activities;
• Troubleshoot complex application, integration, performance, and security-related issues and document resolutions in accordance with established procedures;
• Prepare and maintain technical documentation, operational procedures, application design specifications, deployment guides, and user guides; and
• Regularly review existing applications and make recommendations to improve functionality, performance, maintainability, security, and user experience.

Requirements

• A Bachelor of Science (BSc) Degree in Computer/Information Science or equivalent experience;
• At least 3 years of experience in designing, developing, testing, and maintaining enterprise applications in cloud environments;
• Experience in designing and developing front-end and back-end application components, APIs, and system integrations;
• Experience in building and enhancing cloud-native services on AWS using appropriate managed services, microservices, and event-driven patterns, SQL, RESTful APIs, and containerisation technologies; building and improving CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, and release processes;
• Experience working in an Agile and DevSecOps environment and contributing to estimation, design, delivery, deployment, and operational support;
• Experience in evaluating and applying AI-assisted software engineering tools where appropriate to improve productivity and software quality;
• Experience in designing and implementing scalable, high-availability, and resilient application solutions;
• Strong understanding of software engineering principles, design patterns, secure coding practices, application performance, and system reliability;
• Strong understanding of application architecture, databases, middleware, integration technologies, and cloud-native development principles; Knowledge of Windows and Unix/Linux environments, application hosting platforms, and network principles with consideration for security requirements;
• Excellent communication skills to collaborate with stakeholders, present ideas, and explain complex technical concepts clearly;
• Familiarity with local public sector projects and government policies and processes such as IM8, cybersecurity, data security, and Government Commercial Cloud (GCC) requirements is an advantage; and
• Relevant technology certifications are preferred.
