We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Test Automation Engineer to lead automation testing initiatives across web, mobile, API, and backend platforms. The ideal candidate will combine deep hands-on automation expertise with leadership experience, serving as a technical lead responsible for automation framework development, test strategy, estimation, delivery oversight, and team mentoring.

This role requires a technical leader who can design scalable automation solutions, resolve complex coding challenges, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and drive quality across the software development lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead automation testing efforts for web, mobile, API, and backend applications.
  • Design, develop, and enhance robust automation frameworks from scratch.
  • Create and maintain automated test suites using Java, Selenium WebDriver, Appium, and related technologies.
  • Develop and execute API test automation using tools such as REST Assured, Postman, or similar frameworks.
  • Perform functional, integration, regression, and end-to-end testing.
  • Validate application data and backend processing through SQL and database testing.
  • Define test strategies, testing approaches, effort estimates, and quality metrics.
  • Troubleshoot automation failures and provide technical guidance to team members.
  • Collaborate with developers, product owners, business analysts, and stakeholders to ensure quality objectives are met.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, backlog grooming, daily standups, and retrospectives.
  • Provide leadership, mentoring, and technical direction to QA and automation team members.
  • Generate project status reports, testing metrics, and quality dashboards for leadership and stakeholders.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives across automation processes, tools, and frameworks.

Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in Quality Engineering and Test Automation.
  • Strong hands-on programming experience with Java.
  • 4+ years of experience building and maintaining Selenium automation frameworks.
  • 2+ years of experience with mobile automation using Appium.
  • Strong experience with API testing and automation.
  • Experience with REST APIs, JSON/XML validation, and backend testing.
  • Strong SQL and database validation skills.
  • Experience building automation frameworks from the ground up.
  • Demonstrated experience leading testing teams and automation initiatives.
  • Experience with test estimation, planning, reporting, and project coordination.
  • Strong understanding of Agile/Scrum methodologies.
  • Experience using JIRA or similar defect management tools.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while leading cross-functional testing efforts.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Playwright.
  • Experience with low-code automation platforms such as Mabl.
  • Insurance or financial services industry experience.
  • Performance testing experience using JMeter, LoadRunner, or similar tools.
  • Accessibility testing knowledge.
  • Experience supporting large-scale digital transformation programs.
  • Experience testing across real mobile devices, emulators, and simulators.

  • Provide technical leadership while remaining deeply hands-on.
  • Design and implement scalable automation frameworks.
  • Support and mentor automation engineers on complex coding challenges.
  • Develop effective test strategies and realistic project estimates.
  • Drive quality initiatives with minimal supervision.
  • Communicate effectively with technical teams, business stakeholders, and leadership.

The base compensation range for this role in the posted location is $100,000 - $115,000/ yearly.

Capgemini provides compensation range information in accordance with applicable national, state, provincial, and local pay transparency laws. The base compensation range listed for this position reflects the minimum and maximum target compensation Capgemini, in good faith, believes it may pay for the role at the time of this posting. This range may be subject to change as permitted by law.

The actual compensation offered to any candidate may fall outside of the posted range and will be determined based on multiple factors legally permitted in the applicable jurisdiction.

These may include, but are not limited to: Geographic location, Education and qualifications, Certifications and licenses, Relevant experience and skills, Seniority and performance, Market and business consideration, Internal pay equity.

It is not typical for candidates to be hired at or near the top of the posted compensation range.

In addition to base salary, this role may be eligible for additional compensation such as variable incentives, bonuses, or commissions, depending on the position and applicable laws.
