Your Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Data Tester with exceptional SQL capability and strong experience validating, analysing, and testing data across complex data ecosystems. In this role, you will be working within a purely data‑driven environment, sourcing information from data lakes and external providers, applying regulatory rules and transformation logic, and ensuring end‑to‑end data quality.
This is a hands‑on, high‑visibility role, ideal for someone who enjoys autonomy. You will be the primary tester within the project team, responsible for test strategy, test execution, defect management, stakeholder collaboration, and release sign‑off.
In this role you will play a key role in:
- Develop comprehensive Test Plans, Test Cases, Test Scenarios, and Test Summary Reports for data validation activities.
- Perform functional and non‑functional testing across data pipelines, transformation logic, lookup processes, and regulatory rule applications.
- Execute SQL‑driven tests to validate data accuracy, completeness, conformity, lineage, and reconciliation.
- Data Validation & Analysis
- Write complex SQL queries to profile data, identify anomalies, validate ETL/ELT logic, and analyse data trends.
- Test data integration processes involving data lakes, external data sources, structured/unstructured datasets, and conforming layers.
- Work with Data Engineers and Data Analysts to ensure end‑to‑end data flow accuracy and alignment with business rules.
- Leverage Databricks (desirable) to validate transformations and perform data-level investigations.
- Defect & Release Management
- Lead and manage regular defect triage sessions, ensuring accurate severity classification, prioritisation, and timely resolution.
- Coordinate with cross‑functional teams (Engineering, Architecture, Business) to ensure all defects are addressed before release.
- Prepare release readiness reports and liaise with senior management to secure sign‑off for production deployment.
- Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
Your Profile
- Exceptional SQL skills – ability to write complex queries, joins, stored procedures, aggregations, window functions, and analytical SQL.
- Experience testing within data-centric environments such as data lakes, warehouses, and large-scale ETL/ELT pipelines.
- Hands-on experience validating data transformations, business rules, and regulatory logic.
- Exposure to Databricks (highly desirable).
- Testing Expertise
- Strong background in data testing, ETL testing, or database testing.
- Demonstrated experience preparing:
- Test Plans
- Test Cases / Scripts
- Test Summary Reports
- Defect Logs and Root Cause Analyses
- Experience leading defect triage sessions and managing full test lifecycle.
- Familiarity with SDLC, Agile, and Release Management processes.
- Soft Skills
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
- Confidence liaising with senior management for release sign‑offs and approval gates.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to work independently as the sole tester within a team.
- High attention to detail and commitment to data quality.
- Desirable Qualifications
- Degree in Computer Science, Data Analytics, Information Systems, or related fields.
- Certifications in testing methodologies (ISTQB, etc.).
- Exposure to cloud platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS, GCP) and modern data engineering tools.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
