Enterprise Architect
Job Description
The Enterprise Architect (Financial Services) is responsible for defining and governing the end‑to‑end enterprise architecture across applications, data, integration, cloud, and security domains within a banking, insurance, or broader financial services environment. You ensure that technology capabilities align with regulatory requirements, business strategy, and transformation programs across digital, core platforms, payments, lending, wealth, and risk.
You partner with senior business stakeholders, product owners, engineering, data, security, and operations teams to shape technology vision, set architectural standards, and ensure coherent, future‑ready solutions across the financial services landscape. This role could also be known as a client CTO. An Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident, already based in Sydney or Melbourne ideally.
Your role:
Key responsibilities:
Enterprise Architecture Strategy:
- Develop and maintain enterprise architecture blueprints and target‑state models spanning business, application, data, and technology layers.
- Translate business strategies in banking/insurance/fintech into actionable technology roadmaps.
- Identify modernization opportunities such as cloud migration, legacy retirement, and platform rationalisation.
Domian Architecture Leadership:
- Provide subject‑matter expertise across one or more financial services domains, such as:
- Banking: core banking, deposits, lending, payments, cards
- Insurance: policy admin, claims, underwriting, actuarial systems
- Wealth & Investments: trading, portfolio management, advisory platforms
- Risk & Compliance: AML/KYC, credit risk, operational risk, regulatory reporting
- Digital Channels: mobile, internet, open banking APIs
Solution Architecture Oversight:
- Guide and review solution designs for strategic programs, ensuring compliance with enterprise standards.
- Define architectural patterns, reusable components, and integration guidelines.
- Assess vendor platforms/SaaS products for fit, scalability, security, and regulatory alignment.
- Perform impact analysis, options evaluation, and architectural trade-offs.
Stakeholder Engagement & Advisory:
- Work closely with business leaders, product owners, and delivery teams to influence decision-making.
- Articulate architecture recommendations to senior executives in a structured, business-centric manner.
- Facilitate architecture forums, design reviews, and governance rituals.
Regulatory, Security & Risk alignment:
- Ensure solutions meet financial industry obligations such as AML/KYC, data privacy, operational resilience, and security standards.
- Incorporate global and local regulatory frameworks (e.g., APRA, ASIC, PCI-DSS, ISO27001, GDPR).
- Work with risk, compliance, and audit teams to design secure and compliant architectures.
Technology Modernization & Innovation:
- Lead initiatives involving:
- Cloud-native transformation (AWS/Azure/GCP)
- API-led connectivity & microservices
- Event-driven and real-time architectures
- Data platforms (data lakes, analytics, AI/ML platforms)
- Core system replacement or modernization
- Evaluate emerging trends in fintech, open banking, instant payments, and digital identity.
Your Profile:
- Strong architecture experience in financial services environments.
- Solid understanding of distributed systems, integration patterns, API design, and event streaming.
- Hands-on expertise with cloud platforms and container ecosystems.
- Knowledge of enterprise security, identity, and data governance.
- Familiarity with TOGAF, Zachman, SAFe, or similar frameworks.
- Deep understanding of financial services processes, products, and regulatory obligations.
- Experience with key industry platforms (core banking, insurance PAS, payment gateways, wealth systems).
- Exposure to regulatory-driven programs (e.g., ISO 20022, CPS 230, open banking, digital KYC).
- Strong communication and stakeholder management at senior levels.
- Ability to simplify complex architecture issues into business language.
- Leadership skills to drive alignment across cross-functional teams.
- Analytical, structured thinking with strong decision-making capability.
Education & Certifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
- Master’s degree preferred.
- TOGAF/SAFe/Cloud Architect certifications (AWS/Azure/GCP) strongly preferred.
- Industry certifications (finance, payments, risk, insurance) advantageous.
