Workday Functional Lead

About the job you're considering

We are looking for an experienced Workday Functional Lead to join our growing Workday Practice and help our clients shape, deliver and adopt modern Workday HCM solutions. This is a client-facing, hands-on delivery role for someone who can combine deep Workday functional and configuration knowledge with strong consulting, and workstream leadership skills.

You will lead functional and configuration design, and implementation activity for Workday HCM workstreams and engagements, working with client stakeholders, process specialists, technical teams, data teams and delivery leaders to translate business needs into best-practice Workday solutions. You will also contribute to the continued growth of our Workday capability by supporting pre-sales activity, developing reusable delivery assets, and sharing knowledge across the practice.

Your Role

As a Workday Functional Lead, you will act as a trusted advisor to clients and take ownership of functional workstreams across the delivery lifecycle. You will lead workshops, shape solution decisions, guide and undertake configuration, manage cross-functional dependencies and support clients through testing and deployment.

You will be expected to bring a modern consulting mindset: practical, outcome-focused and comfortable advising clients on how to use Workday capabilities, data, automation and emerging AI-enabled functionality responsibly and effectively.

Functional leadership and solution design:

  • Lead functional workstreams across end-to-end Workday HCM implementations, enhancements and optimisation projects.
  • Run discovery, design and validation workshops with client stakeholders to understand business requirements, pain points and desired outcomes.
  • Translate client requirements into pragmatic Workday solutions aligned to standard functionality, deployment methodology and leading practice.

Configuration, testing and delivery:

  • Lead, undertake and quality-assure Workday configuration activity, ensuring solutions are scalable, maintainable and aligned to agreed design principles.
  • Support data mapping, conversion validation and integration design by advising on functional impacts and Workday data requirements.
  • Provide expert support through system testing, UAT, defect triage, cutover, go-live and early-life support.

Client engagement and advisory:

  • Build trusted relationships with client stakeholders at all levels, from operational SMEs to senior HR and technology leaders.
  • Advise clients on end-to-end HR process design, statutory considerations, adoption impacts and opportunities to simplify or standardise processes through Workday.

Practice development and growth:

  • Contribute to the growth of the Workday Practice through knowledge sharing, mentoring, internal capability development and delivery improvement initiatives.
  • Support pre-sales activity, including solution shaping, estimates, proposals, client presentations and demonstrations where required.

You can bring your whole self to work. At Capgemini building an inclusive future is part of everyday life and will be part of your working reality. We have built a representative and welcoming environment, for everyone.

Your skills and experience

  • Experience leading functional workstreams within Workday HCM deployments, ideally including at least three end-to-end implementations, or a major transformation engagement.
  • Current Workday Services Partner certification in Workday HCM, with certification and delivery experience in at least one additional functional area such as Recruiting, Talent, Performance, Learning, Absence, Time Tracking, Compensation or Benefits.
  • Strong understanding of end-to-end HR processes and how they are enabled through Workday, including awareness of UK and international statutory considerations.
  • Proven ability to lead functional design, make clear recommendations and influence client stakeholders through complex decisions.
  • Experience working across onshore, nearshore and offshore delivery models with multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation and presentation skills, with the confidence to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to resolve complex functional issues in a structured and collaborative way.
  • A proactive, inclusive and knowledge-sharing mindset, with a willingness to coach others and contribute to the wider practice.
