Microsoft Senior SQL Database Administrator

About the job you’re considering

Our Senior SQL Server Database Administrators manage and support mission-critical database estates across some of the largest Microsoft projects on the market, spanning a wide range of industries. Working across development, test, and production environments, they ensure our clients' data platforms are secure, highly available, and performing at their best. As senior members of the team, they act as subject matter experts and trusted advisors on all things SQL Server, working closely with development, infrastructure, and production support teams to resolve issues end-to-end and to continuously refine and automate how the estate is managed. Their expertise is anchored in the Microsoft data platform - SQL Server, Azure SQL, and Power BI/Fabric - while also bringing broader awareness of the wider data platform landscape.

Hybrid working: The places that you work from day to day will vary according to your role, your needs, and those of the business; it will be a blend of Company offices, client sites, and your home; noting that you will be unable to work at home 100% of the time.
If you are successfully offered this position, you will go through a series of pre-employment checks, including:
identity, nationality (single or dual) or immigration status, employment history going back 3 continuous years, and unspent criminal record check (known as Disclosure and Barring Service)

Your role

  • Feed back and liaise with development teams on issues requiring application or schema changes.
  • Identify opportunities to refine and automate regular database processes and maintenance tasks.
  • Assist production support with investigation into live issues, acting as an escalation point for complex incidents.
  • Assist developers with complex query tuning, indexing strategy, and schema refinement.
  • Provide ongoing support for production systems, including participation in on-call/out-of-hours support rotas where required.
  • Perform scheduled maintenance and support release deployments, including planning and risk assessment for high-impact changes.
