Lead Performance Test Engineer

We are seeking a Lead Performance Engineer to lead a team of performance engineers delivering assurance across complex client programmes. You will set the performance strategy, define and agree non-functional requirements and quality gates, and ensure systems are scalable, resilient and ready for production.

Working with engineering, architecture, DevOps, SRE, cloud and business teams, you will embed performance engineering throughout the delivery lifecycle

Your role

Mandatory skills

  • Strong experience in enterprise performance engineering and non-functional testing.
  • Experience leading and technically directing performance engineering teams.
  • Hands-on expertise with performance testing tools such as LoadRunner, JMeter, NeoLoad, Gatling or k6.
  • Experience designing and executing load, stress, endurance, scalability, volume and failover testing.
  • Experience testing web applications, APIs, microservices and distributed systems.
  • Knowledge of cloud-native, containerised and modern application architectures.
  • Experience integrating performance testing within CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience using monitoring, observability and telemetry tools to identify performance bottlenecks.
  • Strong root-cause analysis, diagnostics and performance tuning skills.
  • Experience defining performance requirements, workloads, test data, baselines and acceptance criteria.
  • Understanding of capacity planning, scalability, resilience and production readiness.
  • Strong stakeholder management, communication and consulting skills, with the ability to influence technical and business stakeholders.
  • Experience collaborating with architects, developers, DevOps, SRE, platform teams and third-party suppliers.
  • Ability to lead, coach and develop technical specialists while maintaining delivery quality and standards.

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Experience with Dynatrace, AppDynamics, New Relic, Grafana, Prometheus or Azure Monitor.
  • Knowledge of Azure, AWS or Google Cloud Platform.
  • Experience with Kubernetes and Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
  • Understanding of Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), Service Level Objectives (SLOs) and operational resilience.
  • Experience working within regulated, public sector or healthcare environments.
  • Relevant certifications in Performance Testing, Cloud, DevOps, SRE or Observability disciplines.

Your security clearance

To be successfully appointed to this role, it is a requirement to obtain Security Check (SC) clearance. 
To obtain SC clearance, the successful applicant must have resided continuously within the United Kingdom for the last 5 years, along with other criteria and requirements.
