Data Governance Analyst
About the Job you are considering:
This role supports the Chief Data Office (CDO) by strengthening data governance practices and ensuring alignment with organisational controls and governance standards. The position involves oversight of governance processes, monitoring data‑related KPIs, and performing risk and issue identification across data and records management activities.
A key component of the job includes analysing performance measures, tracking Heatmap indicators, and producing meaningful insights through dashboarding tools. The role directly contributes to strategic objectives by enhancing governance, improving data quality, and enabling effective risk management across the organisation.
Hybrid working:
The places that you work from day to day will vary according to your role, your needs, and those of the business; it will be a blend of Company offices, client sites, and your home; noting that you will be unable to work at home 100% of the time.
Your Role:
- Support change delivery managers to ensure projects comply with governance standards, control frameworks, and organisational strategic goals.
- Monitor Data & Records Heatmap performance, track KPIs, identify risks, issues, and dependencies, and create dashboards using tools such as Tableau or Qlik.
- Document end‑to‑end processes and data flows, including system‑level and database‑level lineage, to support improved data quality across applications.
- Collaborate across various business divisions to influence decisions, contribute to policy development, and drive operational effectiveness.
- If leading a team:
- Set objectives, coach and guide team members, assess performance, and demonstrate organisational leadership behaviours (Listen, Energise, Align, Develop).
- If working as an individual contributor:
- Lead cross‑functional assignments, guide team members through structured analyses, and identify when specialist involvement is required.
- Provide consultation on complex governance or data‑related issues and support People Leaders with escalations.
- Strengthen governance and control practices by identifying risks and developing new or improved policies and procedures.
- Conduct complex analysis of internal and external data sources to solve problems creatively and effectively.
- Communicate complex or sensitive information clearly to diverse stakeholder audiences.
- Influence and persuade stakeholders to support desired outcomes and drive adoption of governance practices
Your Skills:
- Strong understanding of data governance, data quality frameworks, and data lineage (importance, purpose, and implementation).
- Experience with lineage or metadata tools such as Alation or Open Lineage (advantageous).
- Proficiency in dashboarding/visualisation tools such as Tableau, Qlik, or similar to track KPIs and create insightful reports.
- Ability to document detailed end‑to‑end data flows, system processes, and database‑level lineage.
- Exposure to data analytics tools used to analyse data from multiple internal and external sources.
- Excellent communication skills for handling complex or sensitive data governance topics.
- Ability to collaborate with cross‑functional teams and influence decision‑making.
- Leadership or coaching skills (where applicable), including the ability to set objectives, mentor teams, and model leadership behaviours.
- Problem‑solving and risk‑identification capabilities, with the ability to strengthen controls and recommend new policies or procedures.
