Role Overview

We are seeking a Data Engineer to support the development of a KPI reporting and analytics platform for a global retail organization. The project focuses on designing, implementing, and maintaining data pipelines and reporting solutions that provide operational insights into an internal task management application used by store employees across multiple locations.

The Data Engineer will work closely with business stakeholders, product owners, and software engineering teams to deliver reliable, scalable, and accurate reporting capabilities using Google Cloud Platform (GCP), PostgreSQL, and Looker Studio (formerly Google Data Studio).

Key Responsibilities

Data Engineering & Data Management:

  • Design, develop, and maintain data models and ETL/ELT pipelines for KPI and operational reporting
  • Extract, transform, and consolidate data from PostgreSQL databases and other relevant sources
  • Ensure data quality, consistency, integrity, and availability across reporting environments
  • Optimize database queries and data structures to support dashboard performance and scalability
  • Perform data validation, reconciliation, and troubleshooting activities.

Dashboard & Analytics Enablement:

  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand reporting requirements and KPI definitions
  • Prepare curated datasets and reporting layers for consumption by Looker Studio dashboards
  • Support the development and enhancement of operational and management reporting solutions
  • Translate business requirements into technical data specifications.

Cloud Platform & Operations:

  • Develop and maintain data solutions within the Google Cloud Platform ecosystem
  • Monitor data processing workflows and resolve production issues
  • Implement logging, monitoring, and data governance best practices
  • Contribute to performance optimization and cost-efficient cloud resource utilization.

Collaboration:

  • Work closely with software developers responsible for the internal task management application
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, backlog refinement, and retrospectives
  • Collaborate with QA teams to validate reporting accuracy and data completeness
  • Document technical solutions, data models, transformations, and business rules.

Required Qualifications

Technical Skills:

  • 3-5 years of experience in Data Engineering or related roles
  • Strong SQL expertise with hands-on experience in PostgreSQL
  • Experience designing and maintaining relational data models
  • Experience with ETL/ELT development and data integration processes
  • Experience working in Google Cloud Platform (GCP) environments
  • Experience building data sources for BI and reporting tools
  • Understanding of data warehousing concepts and dimensional modeling
  • Experience using version control systems (Git).

Analytics & Reporting:

  • Experience supporting BI solutions and dashboard development
  • Hands-on experience with Looker Studio / Google Data Studio
  • Ability to translate business metrics into technical reporting solutions
  • Understanding of KPI design, measurement, and reporting principlesю.

Professional Skills:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Effective communication with both technical and business stakeholders
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating within distributed teams
  • Experience working in Agile software development environments
  • Upper-Intermediate English.

Would be a plus

  • Experience with BigQuery
  • Familiarity with Python for data processing and automation
  • Knowledge of Google Cloud data services
  • Experience in retail, workforce management, or operational analytics domains
  • Understanding of application telemetry and operational KPI reporting.
