Packet Core Engineer

As an L2 Support Engineer – 4G/5G Packet Core, you will play a critical role in ensuring the availability, performance, and stability of next‑generation telecom networks. You will act as an escalation point for complex technical issues, working across 4G EPC, 5G Core, and IMS environments, while collaborating closely with global engineering, QA, and operations teams.

In This Role, You Will

• Provide 24x7 Level‑2 support for 4G and 5G Packet Core network elements.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues across:
  • 4G EPC: MME, SGW, PGW, PCRF, HSS
  • 5G Core: AMF, SMF, UPF, PCF, UDM/UDR, AUSF
  • IMS: Call session control and media handling
• Perform root cause analysis (RCA) and contribute to post‑incident reports.
• Analyze alarms, signaling flows, KPIs, logs, and packet captures to identify issues.
• Support software upgrades, hotfix deployments, configuration changes, and rollbacks.
• Monitor network health using tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, and ELK.
• Participate in major incident bridges and war rooms.
• Collaborate with L1 support, product engineering, QA, and vendor teams.
• Document troubleshooting procedures, SOPs, and best practices.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to knowledge‑sharing initiatives.

Experience in Telecom Support, Operations, or Network Engineering.Strong hands‑on expertise in LTE, VoLTE, IMS, 5G NSA/SA, and Packet Core networks.In‑depth knowledge of telecom protocols:

• GTP‑C/U, Diameter, SIP, SCTP, HTTP/2, PFCP, NGAP, NAS, S1AP, GX/GY, DNS

Experience with packet analysis and debugging tools:

• Wireshark, tcpdump

Log analysis and monitoring experience using:

• Splunk, ELK Stack, Prometheus, Grafana

Basic scripting and automation knowledge:

• Python, Bash / Shell

Exposure to cloud‑native environments:

• Linux/Unix, Docker, Kubernetes

Experience supporting VNFs and CNFsUnderstanding of security and authentication mechanisms:

• TLS, IPSec, OAuth2, 5G SEPP, SUPI/SUCI

Hands‑on with databases and configurations:

• MariaDB, Couchbase, Redis
• YAML, JSON, REST APIs

Solid understanding of 3GPP standardsStrong analytical skills, communication skills, and a collaborative mindset
