IT/OT Engineer
Your role
As an IT/OT Engineer, you will bridge the gap between operational technology and enterprise IT, enabling the secure and effective flow of industrial data from control systems to enterprise and cloud platforms. Working with technologies such as PLCs, RTUs, SCADA, historians, OPC UA and MQTT, you will design, configure and support integration solutions that connect operational environments with modern applications, data platforms and digital services. You will play a hands-on role in troubleshooting, automation and data engineering activities while developing expertise in IT/OT convergence, industrial edge technologies, cloud connectivity and next-generation industrial architectures.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, configure and support integrations between OT systems (PLCs, RTUs, SCADA and historians) and enterprise applications, data platforms and cloud services.
- Develop and maintain industrial data pipelines using technologies such as OPC UA, MQTT and edge platforms, ensuring reliable, resilient and scalable data flows.
- Create scripts and lightweight software solutions, primarily in Python, to support automation, data transformation, testing, diagnostics and API integrations.
- Collaborate with OT, IT, infrastructure and data teams to troubleshoot integration issues, deliver practical solutions and contribute to emerging IT/OT convergence initiatives, including Unified Namespace, Sparkplug and industrial edge architectures.
Your profile
You are an IT/OT professional with a strong understanding of industrial automation, data integration and modern digital technologies. You can work confidently across both operational and enterprise environments, connecting control systems, applications and cloud platforms while understanding the realities of live industrial operations. Combining technical problem-solving skills with a collaborative, consultancy-focused approach, you are comfortable working with multidisciplinary teams to deliver practical, reliable and scalable integration solutions. Experience within industrial, utilities, energy or critical infrastructure environments is highly desirable.
Key Requirements
- Strong understanding of OT environments, including PLCs, RTUs, SCADA, historians, industrial devices, networking and the communication of operational data across complex architectures.
- Practical experience with IT/OT integration technologies such as OPC UA, MQTT, industrial edge platforms and data transformation, with the ability to connect OT systems to enterprise applications, databases and cloud services.
- Programming and automation skills, particularly in Python, with knowledge of REST APIs, JSON, Git and the development of lightweight integration, diagnostic and data-processing solutions.
- Excellent consulting, communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work across OT, IT, infrastructure, data and cloud teams while contributing to resilient edge-to-cloud and industrial data architectures.
