Java Engineer
Choosing Capgemini means choosing a company where you will be empowered to shape your career in the way you’d like, where you’ll be supported and inspired by a collaborative community of colleagues around the world, and where you’ll be able to reimagine what’s possible. Join us and help the world’s leading organizations unlock the value of technology and build a more sustainable, more inclusive world.
Your role
As a Java Engineer within Java & Open Source, you will design, build, and operate scalable backend systems using modern Java and widely adopted open‑source frameworks. The role focuses on delivering robust, maintainable, and secure services that support business-critical platforms, while actively leveraging and contributing to the open-source ecosystem.
You will work close to the core of the technology stack, collaborating with other engineers, architects, and product stakeholders to translate business needs into well-structured, production-ready solutions. The role values clean code, thoughtful design, and long-term sustainability over short-term fixes, with a strong emphasis on observability, testing, and operational excellence.
Open source is a key part of how solutions are built: from using mature frameworks such as Spring or Quarkus, to evaluating libraries, understanding licensing implications, and contributing improvements back to the community where appropriate.
In this role you will play a key role in:
- Designing, developing, and maintaining backend services and APIs using Java and JVM‑based technologies, while applying solid software design principles such as clean architecture and domain‑driven design to build well‑structured and maintainable systems.
- Building reliable and scalable backend solutions, including both RESTful and event‑driven services. You will work with relational and non‑relational databases to design schemas, optimize queries, and ensure data consistency and transactional integrity.
- Ensuring that services are production‑ready by implementing automated testing at multiple levels (unit, integration, contract) and by establishing effective logging, monitoring, tracing, and alerting to support stable operations.
- Contributing to overall engineering quality by participating in code reviews, architecture discussions, and technical decision‑making. You will support DevOps practices including CI/CD pipelines, containerization, and cloud or Kubernetes deployments, while managing open‑source dependencies responsibly and securely.
Your profile
- Strong experience with Java (11–21+) and a solid understanding of the JVM, including concurrency and memory management.
- Hands-on experience with open‑source Java frameworks such as Spring Boot, Spring Data, Quarkus, or Micronaut.
- Practical experience with automated testing using JUnit and Groovy/Spock, and working knowledge of DevOps practices including Git, Maven/Gradle, Docker, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Strong problem‑solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate technical concepts clearly.
What we believe you will enjoy about working here:
- You get the chance to work with the latest technologies, modern architectural patterns, and contemporary design practices. You’ll also have great opportunities for relevant training and certification within the technologies you’ll be working with.
- You’ll have the opportunity to collaborate closely with customers and help shape solutions that truly make a difference.
- You can make a real impact by influencing decisions and contributing your ideas to the direction of the work.
