Job Description
SPM / Machine Design Engineer
Location :- Chennai
Experience :- 3+ years

You’ll work in a collaborative environment, contributing to concept-to-commissioning machine design that drives efficiency, quality, and safety in manufacturing.
Your Role
As an SPM / Machine Design Engineer, you will be responsible for end-to-end mechanical design activities for Special Purpose Machines, from concept development through detailed design and design validation. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including manufacturing, sourcing, and assembly to ensure robust, manufacturable, and cost-effective machine designs.
In this role, you will:
- Develop concept designs for SPMs, including new designs, modifications, and design evolution based on customer or internal requirements.
- Perform part and assembly design, including creation of detailed drawings and complete Bill of Materials (BOM).
- Select appropriate materials, and define heat treatment, surface treatment, and surface protection methods based on functional and environmental requirements.
- Select and validate commercial components such as motors, gearboxes, bearings, and fasteners.
- Design pneumatic systems, including component selection and pneumatic circuit development.
- Apply design principles such as GD&T and tolerance stack-up analysis to ensure functional fit and manufacturability.
- Estimate design effort and duration for assigned projects and support project planning activities.
- Create or modify shop/plant layouts (2D) where required (added advantage).
Your Profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Proven experience in SPM / machine design and industrial automation environments.
- Strong understanding of mechanical design fundamentals, manufacturing processes, and assembly considerations.
- Hands-on experience with component selection and machine safety requirements.
- Ability to work independently on design tasks while collaborating effectively with multi-disciplinary teams.
- Strong attention to detail, ownership mindset, and problem-solving skills.
Tools & Technologies
- SolidWorks – Mandatory
- DraftSight / AutoCAD – For 2D drafting and layouts
- TeamCenter (Siemens) – For data and lifecycle management
- Exposure to NX, CATIA, Navisworks or other CAD/PLM tools – Added advantage
