Job Description:

The Technical Staff, Engineering Technologist is responsible for advanced engineering and applied research that drives the development of new products, materials, and processes. This role analyzes industry trends, competitive landscapes, and emerging technologies to develop long‑term technical strategies that shape product direction. The position leads technology investigations, provides expert technical guidance, and collaborates with engineering, marketing, suppliers, and leadership teams to ensure product architectures meet Dell’s standards for innovation and market leadership.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop long‑term technology and product strategies using technical, business, and industry insights.
  • Drive cross‑functional alignment to ensure successful execution of technology strategies.
  • Build and maintain long‑term technical relationships with key vendors and maintain deep understanding of vendor technology roadmaps.
  • Identify differentiation opportunities and provide expert technical recommendations to marketing, procurement, engineering, customers, and executives.
  • Lead strategic technical forums, reviews, and cross‑functional meetings on a regular basis.
  • Support development and systems engineering with technical guidance on critical, time‑sensitive challenges.
  • Present Dell’s technology direction, product strategy, and industry trends to customers in a clear and authoritative manner.
  • Generate intellectual property and support legal teams in patent reviews and intellectual property disputes.
  • Participate in strategic initiatives focused on improvements in quality, cost efficiency, and process optimization.
  • Collaborate with marketing, engineering, and suppliers to develop product architectures that meet business unit goals.
  • Conduct technology and industry analyses to support decisions on product definitions, acquisitions, and vendor partnerships.
  • Serve as a principal technical advisor and expert for the assigned product lines or technology areas.
  • Apply deep engineering expertise to guide the development of new concepts, designs, and innovations.
  • Solve complex issues that impact program success and influence long‑term technology direction.
  • Provide thought leadership in evaluating emerging technologies and shaping future product concepts.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 15+ years of relevant experience.
  • Outstanding English communication, both verbal and non-verbal.
  • Recognized expert within specialized engineering domains or multiple related technical fields.
  • Extensive experience applying advanced engineering theories, principles, and design practices.
  • Proven ability to develop long‑term technology strategies and influence product direction.
  • Strong conceptual thinking skills for solving ambiguous or complex technical issues.
  • Demonstrated independent judgment in selecting engineering methodologies and approaches.
  • Experience leading cross‑functional technical discussions and strategic forums.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence senior executives and customers.
  • Experience generating intellectual property or supporting IP‑related evaluations.
  • Ability to drive results that impact multiple functions and shape long‑term strategic goals.
