Job Description:
The Senior Principal Engineering Technologist is responsible for advanced engineering and applied research that drives the development of new products, materials, and processes. This role evaluates industry trends, competitive dynamics, and emerging technologies to shape long‑term product and technology strategies. The position leads technology investigations, conducts strategic analysis, and develops recommendations that influence product architecture, technical direction, and partnership opportunities. Working closely with engineering, systems architecture, marketing, procurement, suppliers, and executive leadership, this role ensures Dell delivers industry‑leading solutions aligned to business objectives and customer needs.
Responsibilities:
- Develop long‑term technology strategies based on business needs, industry trends, and technical insights.
- Drive internal and external alignment to ensure cohesive execution of the technology strategy.
- Build and maintain long‑term technical relationships with key vendors and maintain deep knowledge of vendor technology roadmaps.
- Identify product differentiation opportunities and provide technical recommendations to engineering, marketing, procurement, customers, and executives.
- Lead strategic technical forums, cross‑functional meetings, and technology discussions on a consistent basis.
- Support development and systems engineering teams in addressing tactical or time‑to‑market technical challenges.
- Participate in customer briefings and present Dell’s product and industry direction in a clear and authoritative manner.
- Generate intellectual property and support legal teams with technical expertise related to patents and intellectual property disputes.
- Contribute to strategic initiatives focused on improving process efficiency, product quality, and cost effectiveness.
- When aligned to a product line, collaborate with marketing, engineering, and suppliers to ensure the product architecture meets business requirements and market leadership goals.
- Conduct technology and competitive research to influence product definitions and long‑term roadmaps.
- Provide strategic analysis and recommendations on potential acquisitions, partnerships, and vendor engagements.
- Ensure product architecture and strategy align with Dell’s standards, innovation goals, and long‑term leadership objectives.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree with 12+ years of relevant experience.
- Outstanding English communication, both verbal and non-verbal.
- Broad technical expertise across highly specialized engineering fields or multiple related disciplines.
- Proven ability to develop and influence long‑term technology strategies and product architectures.
- Strong conceptual thinking and ability to analyze complex, ambiguous, or intangible issues.
- Demonstrated independent judgment in selecting engineering approaches, methodologies, and evaluation criteria.
- Strong understanding of industry trends, competitive technologies, and emerging innovations.
- Experience presenting technical strategies and product direction to senior leaders, customers, and strategic partners.
- Ability to collaborate across engineering, marketing, procurement, suppliers, and executive teams.
- Experience generating intellectual property or supporting IP‑related technical evaluations.
- Strong communication, leadership, and stakeholder‑management skills.
- Ability to drive outcomes that influence the broader engineering function and product strategy.
