Senior Azure Infrastructure Support Engineer

Role Overview

The Senior Azure Infrastructure Support Engineer is responsible on implementing azure services (IaaS/PaaS/SaaS) and to provide Level 3 end to end support regarding azure services.

This role focuses on ensuring high availability, performance, security, and compliance of Azure platforms supporting mission‑critical applications. The engineer acts as a subject matter expert (SME), leads complex incident resolution, and drives proactive infrastructure optimization in line with enterprise and government standards.

Key Responsibilities

Azure Infrastructure Operations & Support

  • Implement solutions on azure according to business needs
  • Provide Level 3 support for Azure infrastructure including compute, storage, networking, and platform services.
  • Monitor Azure environments for availability, performance, cost, and security using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Application Insights.
  • Lead troubleshooting of complex infrastructure incidents, including root cause analysis (RCA) and preventive actions.
  • Support production and non-production environments with strict SLA adherence.

Incident, Problem & Change Management

  • Act as an escalation point for critical incidents and outages.
  • Participate in 24x7 on-call rotations as required.
  • Drive problem management by identifying recurring issues and implementing long‑term fixes.
  • Support change and release activities, including infrastructure upgrades, patching, and configuration changes.

Azure Platform Management

  • Manage and support key Azure services such as:
    • Virtual Machines, Scale Sets
    • Azure Virtual Networks, Load Balancers, Azure Firewall
    • Azure Storage (Blob, File, Disk)
    • Azure Backup and Site Recovery
    • Azure AD and role-based access control (RBAC)
    • Azure Key Vaults
  • Support high availability and disaster recovery (HA/DR) setups across regions.

Security & Compliance

  • Implement and enforce Azure security best practices, including identity, network, and data protection controls.
  • Support security vulnerability remediation, patching, and compliance audits.
  • Work closely with security teams to address incidents, alerts, and policy violations.

Automation & Continuous Improvement

  • Automate operational tasks using PowerShell, Azure CLI, ARM/Bicep, or Terraform.
  • Contribute to infrastructure standardization and reliability improvements.
  • Optimize Azure costs (FinOps) through monitoring and recommendations.

Documentation & Knowledge Management

  • Create and maintain runbooks, SOPs, architecture diagrams, and support documentation.
  • Provide knowledge transfer and mentoring to junior engineers.
  • Support audits and governance reviews through accurate documentation.

Required Skills & Experience

Technical Skills

  • 7+ years of experience in infrastructure support, with strong hands-on Azure experience.
  • Deep knowledge of Azure IaaS and core PaaS services.
  • Strong understanding of networking concepts (DNS, TCP/IP, VPN, ExpressRoute).
  • Experience with Azure AD, identity management, and security controls.
  • Proficiency in scripting and automation (PowerShell, Azure CLI).
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across OS (Windows/Linux), network, and cloud layers.

Operational Experience

  • Experience working in managed services or enterprise environments.
  • Strong exposure to ITIL processes (Incident, Problem, Change).
  • Experience supporting production environments with strict SLAs.

Certifications (Preferred)

  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert
  • ITIL Foundation or higher

Soft Skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Clear and professional communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work under pressure in critical production scenarios.
  • Ownership mindset and proactive approach.

Nice to Have

  • Experience supporting government or regulated environments.
  • Exposure to DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Multi-cloud or hybrid infrastructure experience (on‑prem + Azure)
