Software Engineer (Java, Spark, SQL)

ABOUT THE ROLE

Our client is a leading international investment bank and financial services company where we are running Software Development engagements. As a Senior Java Developer, you will join a technology‑driven team working on large‑scale, data‑intensive systems within a complex enterprise environment. The role has a strong backend and distributed data processing focus, combining solid Java engineering with Apache Spark and SQL.

You will work on business‑critical platforms where performance, reliability and scalability matter, and where your technical input genuinely influences solutions.

Budapest | Hybrid (50% onsite)
Fluent Hungarian required

YOUR ROLE

• Design, develop and maintain Java‑based backend applications
• Work with large datasets and implement distributed data processing using Apache Spark
• Write complex and efficient SQL queries across large data volumes
• Collaborate closely with other developers, architects and stakeholders in an Agile environment
• Contribute to technical design decisions and continuous improvement of existing systems
• Ensure high code quality through reviews, testing and best engineering practices

YOUR PROFILE

You are a strong match for this role if you have:

• Solid, hands‑on experience as a Senior Java Developer
• Practical experience with Apache Spark in data‑intensive environments
• Strong SQL knowledge and experience working with complex data models
• Experience building and maintaining backend / server‑side systems
• Familiarity with Agile development ways of working
• Strong analytical thinking and problem‑solving skills
• Professional English communication skills (B2 level or higher)

Nice to have

The following would be considered an advantage:

• Experience with distributed systems and large‑scale data platforms
• Exposure to cloud‑based environments
• Experience in financial services or other highly regulated enterprise domains
• Knowledge of performance optimization and scalability challenges
