Contract Engineering Lead (Civil Engineering)
Our offer
You will be joining one of the world's most ambitious and strategically significant infrastructure programmes — Sizewell C (SZC), the UK's next generation nuclear power station. As a Contract Engineering Lead, you will sit at the heart of a complex, high-impact civil detailing programme, working at the intersection of technical excellence, contract governance, and cross-functional leadership. This is a rare opportunity to shape the future of clean energy infrastructure in the UK.
As a Contract Engineering Lead (Civil), you will serve as the technical authority for a civil detailing contract package within the SZC project, covering the full lifecycle of technical deliverables — from pre-contract definition through to post-award design management. You will work in a hybrid capacity, based 3 days per week at Aztec West, Bristol.
Your profile
- Leading technical authority for the civil detailing contract, overseeing all technical deliverables and ensuring full compliance with SZC standards and replication principles across the programme lifecycle
- Driving pre-contract activities, including supporting the tendering process, assessing Technical Appraisal Reports (TARs), and defining contract technical requirements such as the Book of Technical Specifications (BTS), List of Deliverables, Reviews and Controls (LDRC), and the surveillance plan
- Managing design through all gateway phases (GR0–GRD), from the transfer of HPC information through design development, modelling support and query resolution, while leading key technical reviews including CIHP, GRC and GRD
- Coordinating and leading technical review teams, overseeing major deliverable outputs (DS28, DS26, DS30, DS31) and supporting review of supplementary documents, ensuring consistency and capability across all buildings
- Acting as the primary technical interface between the SZC Project Manager and the L3 Detailer, escalating risks, delays and non-conformances, and supporting configuration control including change management, interface tracking and traceability
Your profile
To succeed in this role, you will bring a strong blend of civil engineering expertise, technical leadership, and the ability to manage complex, multi-stakeholder programmes in a highly regulated environment.
- A degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline is essential, along with a minimum of 10 years' experience in engineering design, detailing or technical management within large-scale infrastructure or nuclear projects
- Proven experience in contract and design management, with the ability to define technical specifications, manage design governance processes, and drive compliance across multi-party delivery teams
- Strong knowledge of nuclear standards, replication principles and configuration management, with demonstrable experience working within regulated environments and managing design risk registers in line with CDM regulations
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with a track record of acting as a technical interface across complex project hierarchies and effectively coordinating multi-disciplinary engineering teams
- A collaborative and solutions-focused approach, with the ability to lead technical meetings and workshops, resolve design queries, and maintain alignment across diverse teams throughout all phases of a major infrastructure programme
If 75%+ of the criteria are met, then your application still may be considered as training and up-skilling will be provided to the right candidates.
