About the job you’re considering
We are seeking an experienced UFT Automation Test Lead to lead automation testing for complex automotive applications, including dealer portals, supply chain platforms, legacy/mainframe systems, APIs, and integrated enterprise applications. The role requires strong hands-on expertise in OpenText UFT/QTP, test automation framework development, SQL, API testing, and CI/CD integration.
The Test Lead will provide technical leadership to onsite and offshore QA teams while serving as a key client-facing point of contact. The ideal candidate will combine hands-on automation expertise with strong test leadership, stakeholder communication, defect management, and a shift-left quality engineering mindset.
Your role
- Lead the design, development, enhancement, and maintenance of UFT/QTP automation frameworks, including keyword-driven, data-driven, and hybrid frameworks for web, legacy/mainframe, API, and integrated applications.
- Develop and maintain automated regression suites, converting appropriate manual test scenarios into reusable automated tests to improve coverage and support faster release cycles.
- Integrate automated test execution with CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps and/or GitHub Actions, enabling continuous testing and timely feedback on application quality.
- Lead and mentor onsite and offshore automation engineers, including work allocation, technical guidance, automation standards, script reviews, troubleshooting, and overall delivery coordination.
- Serve as the primary onsite QA contact for business analysts, developers, project managers, and client stakeholders, translating business requirements into effective test strategies and communicating technical defects as business risks.
- Lead end-to-end validation of automotive and dealer workflows such as vehicle ordering, parts and inventory management, warranty claims, dealer incentives, supply chain, and logistics integrations.
- Coordinate test planning, execution, defect triage, root-cause discussions, and release-readiness activities while providing stakeholders with clear quality metrics, dashboards, risks, and testing status.
- Validate data and system integrations across dealer portals, mainframe applications, APIs, ERP/downstream systems, databases, third-party logistics platforms, and cloud-based components.
- Champion shift-left testing and quality engineering practices, partnering with development teams early in the SDLC to improve automation coverage, release velocity, and overall product quality.
Your skills and experience
- 8+ years of strong hands-on experience with OpenText UFT/HP QTP, including VBScript, descriptive programming, object repositories, reusable components, parameterization, debugging, and automation framework development.
- Demonstrated experience working as an Automation Test Lead, with responsibility for leading onsite/offshore QA teams while remaining hands-on with automation design, scripting, and troubleshooting.
- Strong experience with SQL and database validation, along with testing REST/SOAP APIs and complex integrations across web, mainframe, backend, and enterprise applications.
- Experience integrating automated testing into CI/CD environments, preferably using Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, or similar DevOps platforms; exposure to AWS-based application environments is beneficial.
- Strong knowledge of test and defect management tools such as Micro Focus/OpenText ALM/Quality Center and Jira, including test execution, traceability, defect lifecycle management, and reporting.
- Experience testing automotive dealer management systems, dealer portals, automotive supply chain, logistics, warranty, vehicle ordering, or related automotive applications is highly preferred.
- Strong client-facing communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to explain quality issues, technical defects, dependencies, and release risks to both technical and business audiences.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, particularly for dynamic UI automation, object identification, test-data issues, legacy application synchronization, and integration failures.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant professional experience.
