As part of the establishment of an engineering platform dedicated to industrial CAPEX projects, the Muttenz site is managing several projects related to mechanical installations and infrastructure/civil engineering (general installations) within a chemical environment.
The Mechanical Discipline Leader plays a central role in ensuring technical consistency, compliance with European/Swiss standards, and the quality of engineering deliverables.
The position operates within a dynamic focused on standardisation, digitalisation of engineering practices and multidisciplinary collaboration (Safety Engineering, Process, E&I, Automation, HSE, Construction, Procurement, Mechanical Reception, Commissioning & Handover).
YOUR ROLE
You act as the technical authority for the Mechanical / General Installations discipline on the Muttenz site.
You supervise the studies in German, validate technical solutions, manage technical interfaces, and ensure that engineering deliverables meet the expected quality level for efficient implementation in the field (IFC quality, constructability, compliance).
You are responsible for allocating the on‑site (front‑office) mechanical/general installations engineers and designers across projects, as well as managing the interface with engineering teams located abroad (back‑office / nearshore).
- Define, maintain, and communicate Mechanical / General Installations standards, methods, and technical reference documents.
- Make technical decisions considering safety, cost, schedule, and maintainability.
- Lead and validate multidisciplinary design reviews.
- Check the quality and compliance of Mechanical / General Installations deliverables (3D models, 2D drawings, isometrics, calculation notes, MTO/BOQ, equipment specifications).
- Ensure compliance with EN, ASME, ASIT code, Eurocodes and ATEX/PED requirements.
- Guarantee consistency of technical interfaces with Safety, Process, Automation, E&I and HSE.
- Support Project Managers by clarifying technical aspects, risks and decision points.
- Work closely with Construction teams to ensure constructability of proposed solutions.
- Participate in supplier exchanges and validate the technical conformity of documentation.
- Provide technical support during construction (RFIs, clarifications, redlines).
- Contribute to the preparation of IFC documentation and the commissioning dossier (DMS).
YOUR PROFILE
- 10–15+ years of experience in mechanical engineering and/or infrastructure/civil engineering within the chemical, pharmaceutical or energy industries.
- Ability to manage an engineering team (5–20 people).
- Strong ability to interact with clients, defend technical proposals and support construction teams.
- Proven knowledge of OPAM/SEVESO environments, ATEX/PED directives and EN, ASME, ASIT code and Eurocode standards.
- Demonstrated ability to lead technical reviews, manage complex interfaces and guide decision‑making.
- Tools: Expected knowledge of AVEVA E3D, AutoCAD, mechanical/piping/structural calculations.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, technical leadership, strong documentation discipline and safety mindset.
- Languages: Fluent German + Professional English.
