Job Summary
The Solution Architect – API will drive enterprise-wide API strategy, governance, and platform evolution. This role partners with technology leaders and Line of Business (LOB) stakeholders to define scalable, secure, and future-ready enterprise architecture patterns aligned to business goals. The architect will champion best practices, mentor engineering teams, and oversee API gateway solutions that support the organization’s modernization and digital transformation priorities.
Key Responsibilities
- Enterprise Architecture & Strategy
- Develop enterprise-level API architecture and roadmaps that directly support specific LOB objectives and broader organizational goals.
- Evaluate existing architecture, identify gaps, and define modernization strategies for API platforms and integrations.
- Ensure architectural alignment across systems, programs, and agile release trains in accordance with enterprise architecture guidelines.
- API Gateway Engineering Leadership
- Lead the design, implementation, and optimization of enterprise API Gateway solutions (e.g., Apigee, Kong, MuleSoft, AWS API Gateway etc.).
- Define integration patterns, routing strategies, traffic management, service discovery, and gateway governance controls.
- Partner with DevOps/SRE teams to integrate API services into CI/CD pipelines, ensuring automation, reliability, and performance.
- API Architecture Enablement for Center of Excellence (CoE)
- Partner with Center of Excellence team for defining enterprise standards, best practices, and reusable patterns for API development and lifecycle governance.
- Develop and evolve internal API guidelines, OpenAPI standards, and architectural frameworks ensuring consistency across the enterprise.
- Drive cross-functional collaboration with LOB and engineering teams to align API strategies with business and operational objectives.
- Security, Compliance & Observability
- Define and implement enterprise API security frameworks including OAuth2, JWT, mTLS, threat protection, and rate limiting.
- Ensure API platforms adhere to regulatory, compliance, and data protection requirements.
- Establish observability frameworks—logging, tracing, monitoring—for enterprise APIs.
- Technical Leadership & Mentorship
- Mentor engineering teams on API design principles (REST, GraphQL), microservices patterns, and gateway best practices.
- Conduct architecture reviews, quality assessments, and engineering enablement sessions.
- Influence technology decisions by evaluating emerging API technologies and introducing tools that enhance API lifecycle management.
Required Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Solution Architect OR API Architect designing enterprise-scale API ecosystems.
- Hands-on experience implementing API Gateway solutions (e.g., Apigee, Kong, MuleSoft, AWS API Gateway etc).
- Deep understanding of REST, GraphQL, microservices, containerization (Docker/Kubernetes), and event-driven architecture.
- Strong knowledge of API security frameworks (OAuth2, JWT, mTLS), observability tooling, and performance engineering.
- Experience contributing to or leading API governance programs, CoEs, or standards committees.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence at all organizational levels.
The base compensation range for this role in the posted location is: $86129 - $127189
Capgemini provides compensation range information in accordance with applicable national, state, provincial, and local pay transparency laws. The base compensation range listed for this position reflects the minimum and maximum target compensation Capgemini, in good faith, believes it may pay for the role at the time of this posting. This range may be subject to change as permitted by law.
The actual compensation offered to any candidate may fall outside of the posted range and will be determined based on multiple factors legally permitted in the applicable jurisdiction.

It is not typical for candidates to be hired at or near the top of the posted compensation range.
In addition to base salary, this role may be eligible for additional compensation such as variable incentives, bonuses, or commissions, depending on the position and applicable laws.
