The Data Governance Manager is responsible for defining, implementing, and leading enterprise-wide data governance strategies that ensure the integrity, quality, privacy, and responsible use of organizational data assets. This role provides thought leadership across Data Governance, Data Quality, Metadata Management, Data Privacy, and AI Data Governance, while driving cultural adoption of governance practices across the enterprise.

REQUIREMENTS 

 

  • Proven Data Governance Leadership 
  • Leading enterprise data governance programs end‑to‑end, setting policies/standards, and operationalizing frameworks (policies, SOPs, controls) across multiple data domains.
  • Metadata, Catalog & Data Modeling Expertise. Hands-on experience implementing/operating enterprise data catalogs and business glossaries (e.g., Collibra, Alation, Informatica EDC), defining metadata standards, lineage, retention, and foundational data modeling concepts.
  • Designing and running data quality programs (rules, thresholds, remediation workflows), with KPIs/scorecards and issue management; familiarity with DQ tools 
  • AI & Ethical Data Governance. Governance of datasets used in AI/ML (provenance, consent, bias/risk assessment, data minimization), plus practical experience defining ethical AI data guidelines and controls (e.g., dataset documentation, model data lineage).
  • Strong working knowledge of GDPR, CCPA/CPRA (and data residency/retention), DPIAs/LIAs, data classification, access controls, and collaboration with Legal/Compliance on audits and regulatory responses.
  • Demonstrated ability to partner with IT, Security, Legal, Compliance, and business data owners, run councils/working groups, drive adoption, and deliver training/enablement materials.
  • Experience leading/mentoring data governance teams, establishing operating cadences (roadmaps, backlogs, steering), and delivering measurable maturity improvements (e.g., DCAM/CMMI or custom maturity models).

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Establish and maintain the enterprise data governance framework, including policies, standards, operating procedures, and downstream controls.
  • Define and implement metadata management, retention, protection, and data modeling standards across data domains.
  • Develop roadmaps and strategic plans to advance the organization’s data governance and data maturity.
  • Lead and manage the enterprise data catalog and metadata management program.
  • Drive efforts to improve data visibility and understanding through curated metadata and business glossaries.
  • Develop metrics and controls to ensure data accuracy, consistency, and quality.
  • Implement data governance scorecards and KPIs.
  • Oversee governance of data used in AI and machine learning applications.
  • Establish ethical AI data guidelines.
  • Ensure compliance with data protection regulations including GDPR and CCPA/CPRA.
  • Collaborate with IT, legal, compliance, and business teams.
  • Lead, mentor, and support data governance team members.
