You must be an Australian Citizen and currently have baseline security clearance and/or NV1 clearance to be eligible for this role.
We are seeking an experienced Project Manager / Senior Project Manager to lead complex, large-scale projects, with a strong focus on Defence clients and programs. This client-facing role centres on end-to-end project delivery, delivery leadership, and stakeholder engagement across the full project lifecycle. The successful candidate will bring proven experience working in Defence environments or the Defence industry, strong project management discipline, and a track record of building trusted relationships across client organisations to deliver successful project outcomes.
In this role, you will:
Deliver High-Impact Projects
- Lead complex, high-visibility projects from initiation to successful completion
- Develop and execute integrated plans covering scope, schedule, budget, and resources
- Own delivery outcomes by proactively managing risks, issues, and change
Strengthen Governance & Client Trust
- Establish effective governance frameworks, reporting rhythms, and delivery discipline
- Act as a trusted advisor to Defence and senior stakeholders, driving alignment and confidence
- Lead steering committees and key forums to enable timely decisions and issue resolution
- Build strong, lasting client relationships through proactive communication and insight
Drive Coordination Across Teams
- Lead cross-functional teams, vendors, and stakeholders to deliver outcomes efficiently
- Manage dependencies, competing priorities, and resource constraints across workstreams
- Implement practical ways of working to maintain momentum and focus
Provide Clear Insights & Reporting
- Deliver concise updates on status, financials, risks, and performance
- Support sponsors with actionable insights to enable informed decision-making
- Maintain transparency and control throughout the project lifecycle
Apply Flexible Delivery Approaches
- Leverage waterfall, agile, or hybrid methodologies depending on project needs
- Tailor governance and delivery approaches to suit complexity and risk
- Drive continuous improvement through lessons learned and iterative delivery
Engage & Influence Stakeholders
- Build trusted relationships with executives and program leaders
- Communicate complex information clearly, including risks and recommendations
- Support stakeholder alignment and adoption of change across delivery
Job Description - Grade Specific
Experience & Education
- 7+ years’ project management experience, including delivery of complex, large-scale or high-risk projects
- Experience in consulting, government, Defence, or similar environments with strong client-facing delivery
- Proven ability to manage scope, schedule, budget, risks, and stakeholder engagement
- Experience delivering within Defence or secure/government environments, with understanding of governance and stakeholder expectations
- Strong track record managing project plans, resources, dependencies, and reporting
- Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and build trusted senior stakeholder relationships
- Experience in organisational change, technology, or transformation initiatives
Technical Skills
Advanced proficiency in:
- Microsoft Excel (data analysis, financial modelling)
- Microsoft PowerPoint (executive reporting and presentations)
- Microsoft Project (planning, resource management, critical path)
- Jira (Agile delivery, workflows, reporting)
Certifications
- PMP, PRINCE2, or equivalent (preferred)
- Agile/Scrum certifications (desirable)
- Additional qualifications in risk, change, or delivery methodologies highly regarded
